Digital aerial surveys providing unparalleled detail

Our specialist vertical and oblique camera systems and innovative software produce ultra-high resolution images, from which we produce fully interactive 3d landscape models.

These highly detailed and accurate models are perfect for the construction, utilities and regulatory service industries.

Digital aerial surveying can also produce traditional mapping outputs such as orthophotos, digital elevation models (DEMs) and point clouds.

3D virtual reality video flyovers

Our 3D ‘reality’ models allow the user to zoom and fly around the model, bringing a unique perspective and immersive look at the site.

Starting with the 3D models, we use Bentley’s LumenRT visualization software to produce virtual reality flyover videos of a site. The videos play along a pre-defined flight path and allow the user to pan around the model in 360 degrees.

The videos are compatible with YouTube, and we can host the models online, either privately or publicly. They can also be viewed in 3D using a virtual reality headset and a smartphone for a fully immersive experience. At our client’s request, we can also add moving traffic, livestock and people to the models.

Sounds entertaining! But interactive 3D models have time and cost benefits for our clients too. They help to minimize the need for multiple site visits, reducing costs and health and safety risks, as multiple users with internet access can view different aspects of the site from any location.

They also provide a brilliant visual method of engaging with stakeholders, including the public and other interested parties at consultations, events or via development websites.

Try our interactive 3D models

The high quality, reliable topographic data that underpins the models gives engineers, ecologists and asset managers the ability to make accurate ‘on-the-fly’ measurements of distance, height, slope and volume.

With decades of experience in aerial surveys, APEM Inc have the unique ability to produce 3D digital models over very large areas such as river catchments, route corridors or whole towns and cities.

Uses of 3D models

The 3D models can be used for many purposes including:

  • Catchment modeling
  • Asset management and condition assessment
  • Planning and route optimization
  • Mapping and topographic projects
  • Habitat and land use surveys
  • New development visualizations
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Marketing assets
