APEM is looking for an experienced scientist / consultant with a commercial background to give APEM Inc. a presence on or near the North Eastern coast.

This is a multi-faceted role focused on:

  • Managing an existing portfolio of high profile projects.
  • Business development to secure further contracts across a range of services and industries.
  • Raising the profile of APEM’s services within US markets.

APEM is a UK-based environmental consultancy with a successful US subsidiary, APEM Inc. This new role is in response to rapidly expanding work in the US, plus clear opportunities for further expansion.

APEM is the world’s leading provider of ultra-high resolution aerial wildlife surveys for the offshore wind farm industry. We are also a leading provider of a wide range of remote sensing and geospatial solutions, mainly for the water, power and construction industries.

Our offshore wildlife surveys are carried out using specialist survey aircraft and bespoke camera systems and are a vital part of the development of offshore wind farms. We are currently carrying out the world’s largest and most detailed such surveys off the coast of New York, as well as large surveys off the Carolinas.

Our land based remote sensing and geospatial services include 3D modelling of landscapes, habitat surveys, land use mapping, and a range of other highly specialized services for environmental, engineering and planning needs.

About the role

The role has two main responsibilities: managing existing projects and winning new work.

Client facing activity, winning of new business and managing new bids will be a required element, as will looking at ways in which to improve the total value proposition of APEM’s service offerings.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for project managing APEM Inc’s existing portfolio of US projects, including management of survey logistics, budgets and subcontractors.

The successful candidate will be supported by APEM’s large and experienced teams in the UK.

What we’re looking for

This role would suit a consultant with either a wildlife biology or remote sensing background and experience of business development. Writing and reviewing of consultancy reports and ITTs will be an essential component of the role, and as such, the successful candidate will demonstrate a high standard of written English and be proficient with Microsoft office packages.

The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with APEM’s UK-based ornithology, remote sensing and data teams, and will be in regular telecommunication contact with APEM’s staff in the UK and Germany.

Required skills include:

  • Experience of business development
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong track record of project management, including managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong technical writing and reviewing skills
  • Experience in client management
  • Self-motivated and able to work well independently as well as part of a team.
