As a science-based company, we work with our clients to provide tailored solutions and products from remotely sensed data. We start by focusing on client needs by answering the following two key questions:
- What industry challenges are our clients facing now and in the future?
- What information is needed to understand those challenges?
If remotely sensed data can provide the information needed by our clients, we use existing information sources if available, or we customize our data acquisition and sensor technologies to gather the data.
Collecting the right data
Fundamental to gathering the right data is choosing the right type of sensor. Each sensor has specific uses and benefits and they are often used in combination. We employ a variety of sensors that include:
- Custom visible light and near-infrared systems
- Commercial mapping sensors
- Thermal infrared
- Multi and hyperspectral
- Bathymetric LIDAR
Once the sensor(s) have been chosen, selecting right the conditions for the data acquisition is crucial. Our experienced remote sensing scientists understand the temporal and environmental factors that underpin successful data collection and work with our operational staff to execute the surveys. We specialize in customized projects where standard approaches would not be successful.
Depending on project size and constraints we will employ satellite, helicopter, fixed wing aircraft, or UAV platforms to complete the surveys. We are focused on using the best and most cost effective solution rather than favoring one over the other.
Survey design is also fundamentally important - a well-designed survey must be safe, accurate, cost effective, and scientifically rigorous.
Processing and analyzing the data
Once the data is collected, it is downloaded, backed up, and processed for analysis. Analysis can be as simple as identifying and counting specific targets in the images, such as birds or trees. However, often times our remote sensing specialists develop specific algorithms, filters, and software to pull out key information from the data for further analysis. We also use state-of-the-art off the shelf software, such as ERDAS, Pix4D, and ArcGIS products, in addition to some of our own custom proprietary software. Our analysis usually includes a combination of the following:
- Object recognition
- Feature extraction
- Feature measurement
- Change detection
- Statistical comparisons
- Geospatial assessments
Providing deliverables and solutions
Depending on the project and client needs, deliverables may include:
- Digital Orthoimagery
- Oblique Imagery
- Multi/Hyperspectral Imagery
- Thermal Infrared (TIR) Imagery
- Digital elevation models and digital terrain models
- Contours and Topo Maps
- 3-D Models and Video
- GIS shapefiles and maps

However, our products and services usually extend beyond imagery and include detailed analytics, interpretation, and advice on what the data tells us about solving the problem or challenges.
